SCV Means Business Podcast Update– Innovative SCV Startups & Mission Valley Bank

Workers around tableAmong the diverse companies that make up the SCV economy, there are a few that are providing innovative solutions to current and future industry needs. Many of these businesses are highlighted on the new website Innovate SCV, a partnership we are proud to participate in, fueling entrepreneurial endeavors in Santa Clarita with an award-winning business incubator program and a massive network of support and resources.

This month, SCVEDC President Holly Schroeder sat down to interview some of the business leaders from some of these local companies, to discuss what drives them forward in the SCV.

Advrtas began as a startup right here in Santa Clarita four years ago, providing interactive advertising to primarily mobile device users utilizing immersive 360-degree media. Basically, this exclusive technology can convert and 2D graphic into an advertisement using artificial intelligence. CEO Robert Bruza credits the SCVEDC with providing a support system instrumental in finding facilities to house their business, while allowing it to grow and succeed. They are the first company in the SCV to be housed in the Old Newhall Library Space.

Med Tech Solutions, a provider of a healthcare IT platform that allows medical facilities and providers to go paperless, found the move to SCV to be an easy choice. James Deck, CEO of Med Tech Solutions, shared that their decision to move from Pasadena was fueled by the available resources and willingness of the EDC to teach them about the area and help them locate an appropriate office space. And as many of their employees were already located here, the transition was simple.

Similarly, MovoCash, a Block Chain technology company that allows simple conversion of crypto currency to US Dollars moved from being based out of CEO & Founder Eric Solis’s home in Palo Alto, CA to Santa Clarita with its small staff. Solis wanted his children to attend a great school, and he found that the education system in the SCV met his desires. In addition, he found that it was a great place to raise a family and located ideally for many of his employees.

Acqubit, a company that provides hardware sensors for 3D objects and data, is rooted in Santa Clarita. Founder Rengarajan Sudharsanan chose to start Acqubit after his kids were grown and having lived in the SCV for over 20 years already, he knew the proximity to LA and the surrounding areas would be crucial to growing a new business. Like many of the other businesses, the EDC supported Sudharsanan in finding the office space he required near other industrial and tech companies. He cites the talented employee pool available in the SCV as helping his company grow quickly.

Signing a contractFinally, this month Holly also spoke with Tamara Gurney, President and CEO of Mission Valley Bank, a small business bank set up to specifically serve the SCV and surrounding areas. Focusing on building relationships with their clients and seeking to help them manage their business for long-term growth and success rather than just the bottom line is what differentiates them from the other banks out there. They focus on serving businesses to help them better serve the community, because the people behind the companies are part of that community. Gurney says that they seek to promote from within and use available resources to encourage employee training and education.
