As part of its ongoing effort to promote international investment into the Santa Clarita Valley (SCV), and to facilitate export opportunities for SCV companies, SCVEDC recently participated in two major investment conferences: SelectLA hosted by the Los Angeles Economic Development Corporation (LAEDC), as well as the SelectUSA Investment Summit in Washington D.C.

 

These investment conferences are a crucial component of SCVEDC's comprehensive strategy to attract a diverse range of investors, both domestically and internationally, who are interested in expanding their operations into the dynamic and thriving business environment of the SCV. By actively engaging with potential investors at major conferences like SelectLA and the SelectUSA Investment Summit, SCVEDC aims to showcase the SCV as a prime location for business growth and development, highlighting the region's business-friendly policies, strategic location, skilled workforce, and abundance of money-saving incentives. 2023 SCVEDC Annual Report

After 13 years of collaborative efforts within our community, the work of the Santa Clarita Valley Economic Development Corporation (SCVEDC) continues to be crucial to our region's growth. SCVEDC continues to focus on business assistance, business attraction and retention, community marketing, and information and data. Despite the numerous obstacles of the past few years, there are many bright spots; most notably, the incredible support, innovation, and resiliency of our business community.

 

Last Tuesday night Dr. Jey Wagner, President & CEO of the Santa Clarita Valley Economic Development Corporation, released the 2023 SCVEDC Annual Report to the City Council. It featured our organization's business attraction and retention, business assistance, economic information & research, and workforce development initiatives.

SCVEDC Welcomes New Vice President of Workforce & Economic Development

Over the past few months, there have been some internal staffing changes for long-standing members of the SCVEDC. Our prior Director of Business Assistance for 7 years, Sue Arellano, retired back in May and was replaced by Dr. Jey Wagner. This September also saw our previous President and CEO Holly Schroeder making her own career transition after leading the SCVEDC for over 10 years. With Dr. Wagner taking over the President and CEO role for Holly, we are pleased to announce that veteran economic developer Ondré Seltzer will be taking over Wagner’s prior role as VP of Workforce and Economic Development.

SCVEDC Wins 2 International Awards of Excellence

The SCVEDC is excited to announce that we were recently honored for excellence in economic development by the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) in two distinct categories. For both the Business Retention & Expansion (BRE) Initiatives and Print Brochures categories impacting populations between 200,000 - 500,000 residents, the SCVEDC was recognized for two of last year's projects: The 2022 Business Survey, and the SCV Talent Report.

 

Avon Rents Moves HQ to Santa Clarita Valley

New Ownership, new location, and a new way of doing business

SANTA CLARITA VALLEY, CA – Avon Rents, a one-stop vehicle rental company serving the greater Los Angeles area for over 40 years, has recently expanded into the Santa Clarita Valley. Avon operates one of the largest independently owned and operated fleet of commercial vehicles in Southern California. While their fleet primarily serves the film industry with production trucks and trailers, Avon also offers a new and improved variety of cargo vans, stake beds and cube trucks for small businesses and individual rentals.

 

AT2 Aerospace Chooses SCV for Headquarters

Press Release - New aerospace company joins SCV's thriving local cluster

 

SANTA CLARITA VALLEY, CA – This month Lockheed Martin announced the completed transition of their hybrid airship IP and related assets to a newly formed commercial company, AT2 Aerospace. AT2 is developing airship solutions to support commercial and humanitarian applications around the world. The development of airships is anticipated to provide new freight alternatives for shippers, as well as the
ability to reach remote locations efficiently.

 

SCVEDC Announces Vallarta Supermarkets Move of Corporate HQ to Santa Clarita

Welcome Vallarta and it's corporate employees to the Santa Clarita Valley!

 

SANTA CLARITA VALLEY, CA – The Santa Clarita Valley Economic Development Corporation (SCVEDC) announced today that California-based Vallarta Supermarkets will relocate its corporate headquarters to the Santa Clarita Valley (SCV) in late 2023. Vallarta Supermarkets has purchased a three-building campus at 28470 - 28490 Avenue Stanford in Santa Clarita. The three buildings that make up the "Valencia Corporate Plaza” encompass 195,387 square-feet of office space. This campus is bordered by Advanced Bionics (HQ), Donaldson, Southern California Edison, and several other small businesses and manufacturers in the Valencia Industrial Center.

Santa Clarita Wins 3rd Award for Most Business-Friendly City from LAEDC

Last Thursday night, the Los Angeles Economic Development Corporation (LAEDC) recognized the City of Santa Clarita as the Most Business Friendly City  in LA County with a population greater than 60,000, tying with the City of Gardena. El Segundo was named the winner for cities with a population under 60,000. Tom Cole and Monica Fawcett from the city's Economic Development department accepted the award on the city's behalf at the LAEDC’s 27th Eddy Awards in SoFi Stadium.

 

The Eddy Awards® is one of the most prestigious awards programs to recognize leadership in economic development in business and government throughout Los Angeles County. It celebrates exceptional public and private leadership in LA County economic development, with the Most Business Friendly City Award and recognition of honorees that demonstrate outstanding contributions to economic development in the region.

Honor Ranch Development Project Takes Next Steps

The Honor Ranch Site (Honor Ranch) is a potential development located in a County-owned vacant lot in the Santa Clarita Valley. This 206-acre plot along the eastern edge of the I-5 (north of the Castaic Junction) offers an excellent opportunity for a new jobs-creating development. It consists of a large contiguous land area with high visibility and freeway access.

 

The location has been identified as a potential development site for years. A motion was introduced by 5th District Supervisor Kathryn Barger on June 14, 2022 that enters LA County into an exclusive negotiation phase for the project. The "Honor Ranch Development Project" has now moved further in the process than ever before towards making this project a reality.

 

Trammell Crow Company (TCC) was chosen as the preferred developer for a 1.8 million SF project consisting primarily of new industrial facilities. TCC will work closely with LA County Public Works on the pre-development phase, as well as negotiating a final agreement. Honor Ranch has great potential to bring more high quality jobs to our valley, allowing more residents in our expanding population to live and work right here in SCV!

SCV Home to Two Certified B Corporations

SCV Companies Making an Impact on Their Employees, Community, and Environment

 

 

Many people want to partner with, work for, buy from, and invest in companies they believe in. Two Santa Clarita Valley companies have become B Corporations demonstrating commitment to their employees, community, and the environment.   

 

B Corporations are for-profit companies, certified by a nonprofit called B Lab. In order to earn the certification, companies must achieve a 80/200 score on B Lab’s assessment, which is split into four parts – Governance, Workers, Community, and Environment.

DrinkPAK Already Expanding in the SCV

DrinkPAK Now Occupies More Than 572,000 Square Feet in Needham Ranch

 

Six months after signing its first lease in the Center at Needham Ranch (CANR) industrial park, DrinkPAK, the premier West Coast alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage manufacturer, is already expanding its footprint in Santa Clarita, California.

 

Currently, DrinkPAK leases 172,324-square-foot at (CANR) and just this week signed two more leases for an additional 400,095-square-feet, bringing their total space occupied to 572,419-square-feet. This location will house the company’s procurement support, complex batching and processing, filling, packaging, and on-site storage and distribution.

While the COVID-19 crisis initially gave many companies pause for good reason, 2020 was an exceptionally good year for industrial real estate across the board, the Santa Clarita Valley included. In 2020, the SCVEDC was pleased to announce that several new companies chose to locate in the Santa Clarita Valley including two Amazon fulfillment centers, DrinkPAK, a beverage manufacturer, and a state-of-the-art medical testing lab. Several SCV companies expanded as well, including P3 Inc., LA North Studios, Lief Labs, 24/7 Events and Mellady Direct Marketing.

LA North Studios to Add Soundstages at The Center at Needham Ranch

 

Trammell Crow Company (TCC) and Clarion Partners, LLC announced Wednesday that LA North Studios, one of Santa Clarita’s newest and largest soundstage facility and studio operators, has signed a five-year lease to take over 113,640 square feet at Building 5 at The Center at Needham Ranch. LA North plans to convert the space into a fully functioning satellite soundstage hub when it opens in early 2021.

Developers Trammell Crow Co. and Clarion Partners have announced that DrinkPAK, an alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage manufacturer, has inked a deal to occupy space at the joint venture's The Center at Needham Ranch industrial park in Santa Clarita.

New Testing Lab to Open in Santa Clarita Valley

The Santa Clarita Valley Economic Development Corporation is pleased to announce that the State of California plans to open a new medical testing lab in the Santa Clarita Valley. The state is in final lease negotiations on a property in the Livingston Technology Park that features 12,000 square feet of Class 7 and 8 clean room space in the 134,287 square foot facility.

New Brain Stimulation Center to Open in SCV

Santa Clarita, CA -- The Santa Clarita Valley Economic Development Corporation (SCVEDC) has announced the opening of BrainStim Centers, Inc., in the Santa Clarita Valley. Brainstim Centers, Inc., focuses on supporting brain health through the process of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). Local and innovative neurosurgeon Dr. Mark Liker, who initiated and leads the center, anticipates that it will be the first of several such state-of-the-art therapeutic centers in California.
